GTU (Gujarat Technological University) Passing Criteria & Marks Rules

GTU evaluates theory papers out of 70 marks and mid-semester/internal assessments out of 30 marks. Grade DD (4 grade points) is the minimum pass grade.

Grace Marks Policy

GTU provides condonation grace marks (up to 5 marks) under university grace ordinances for borderline subject clearance.

  • ATKT (Allowed To Keep Terms) allows students to move to the next semester carrying a maximum of 4 uncleared heads.
  • Backlog clearance automatically recalculates SPI and CPI.

Difference between SPI, CPI, and CGPA

SPI (Semester Performance Index) = 1 semester average. CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) = Cumulative average up to current semester. CGPA = Final graduating CPI.

CPI = Sum(SPI x Semester Credits) / Sum(Semester Credits)

First Class with Distinction

CPI >= 7.10 (Equivalent to 66% and above under the CPI - 0.5 x 10 rule).
