GTUConversion

GTU CPI to Percentage Converter

Build the GTU CPI from your semester SPI values and convert the result into a percentage.

GTU CPI to Percentage Converter

Semester indices

Enter the SPI of each semester with the credits that semester carried.

Semester rows

Each row holds one semester SPI and the credits registered in that semester.

Result

CPI is credit weighted, so a heavier semester moves the figure more.

Add at least one semester with its SPI and credits.

About this tool

When you only have the SPI of each semester, the CPI has to be rebuilt as a credit weighted average before it can be converted. This tool takes every semester SPI with the credits that semester carried, computes the CPI exactly as GTU does, and applies the (CPI - 0.5) x 10 equivalence to give the percentage.

How it works

Using the GTU CPI to Percentage Converter in three steps

Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.

  1. 1

Add one row per semester with the SPI and the credits that semester carried.

  2. 2

The tool builds the credit weighted CPI across all the semesters entered.

  3. 3

It then applies the (CPI - 0.5) x 10 equivalence to give the percentage.

  • ATKT (Allowed To Keep Terms) allows students to move to the next semester carrying a maximum of 4 uncleared heads.
  • Backlog clearance automatically recalculates SPI and CPI.

GTU (Gujarat Technological University) Key Terms & Grading Definitions

Official explanations for YGPA, DGPA, SPI, CPI, CGPA and Distinction criteria.

Difference between SPI, CPI, and CGPA

SPI (Semester Performance Index) = 1 semester average. CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) = Cumulative average up to current semester. CGPA = Final graduating CPI.

CPI = Sum(SPI x Semester Credits) / Sum(Semester Credits)

First Class with Distinction

CPI >= 7.10 (Equivalent to 66% and above under the CPI - 0.5 x 10 rule).

CPI from semester indices

CPI = Sum of (SPI x Semester Credits) / Sum of Credits, then Percentage = (CPI - 0.5) x 10
  • Semesters carry different credit loads, so a plain average of SPI values gives the wrong CPI.
  • Use the registered credits of each semester, including laboratory and project credits.
  • The percentage step applies the same GTU equivalence used on the final result.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not just average my SPI values?

A heavier semester influences the CPI more than a lighter one. A plain average ignores the credit weight and usually differs from the official CPI by a few decimals.

Where do I find my semester credits?

They are printed against each subject on the GTU result. Add them up for the semester and enter the total.

Does a repeat semester count twice?

No. Enter the final index for each semester once. Cleared repeat subjects are already reflected in the revised SPI.

How accurate is the rebuilt CPI?

It matches the university figure when the credits are entered correctly, since the calculation is the same credit weighted average GTU applies.

Can I include only some semesters?

Yes, and the result is the CPI across just those semesters. For the official figure, enter every semester completed so far.

What if two semesters had the same credits?

Then the weighted average matches a plain average for those two. The weighting only matters once the credit loads differ.
