GTU evaluates theory papers out of 70 marks and mid-semester/internal assessments out of 30 marks. Grade DD (4 grade points) is the minimum pass grade.

Difference between SPI, CPI, and CGPA

SPI (Semester Performance Index) = 1 semester average. CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) = Cumulative average up to current semester. CGPA = Final graduating CPI.

First Class with Distinction begins at seventy percent and First Class at sixty percent.

Frequently asked questions

Is the GTU rule the same as the VTU rule?

No. GTU deducts 0.5 grade points while the older VTU schemes deduct 0.75, so the same index converts to different percentages at the two universities.

What CGPA equals sixty percent?

A CGPA of 6.50, because 6.50 minus 0.5 multiplied by ten gives exactly sixty percent.

Does GTU issue an equivalence certificate?

Yes, the university publishes the conversion and the examination section can certify it for employers and foreign universities.

Can I convert an SPI with this tool?

Yes. The same equation applies, though official equivalence is quoted on the cumulative figure.
