About this tool
Enter the credits and letter grades for each subject in a semester to get your SGPA. The calculator uses the AKTU grade point mapping and credit weightage exactly as printed on the official marksheet.
How it works
Using the AKTU SGPA Calculator in three steps
Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.
- 1
Add every subject with its credits and the grade point earned in that subject.
- 2
Grade points are multiplied by credits, summed, then divided by total credits for the semester.
- 3
The result is your SGPA for that specific semester.

AKTU (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) Passing Criteria & Marks Rules
AKTU requires passing both external end-semester theory exams and overall subject aggregate. Internal sessional marks are combined with external marks.
| Assessment Component | Max Marks | Pass Marks | Official Guidelines |
|---|---|---|---|
| External End-Sem Theory | 70 Marks | 21 Marks (30%) | Mandatory minimum in end-semester theory exam. |
| Internal Sessional Assessment | 30 Marks | No individual cutoff | Internal marks combine with external to reach 40% aggregate. |
| Overall Theory Aggregate | 100 Marks | 40 Marks (40%) | Combined score of internal + external must be at least 40. |
| Practical / Lab / Viva | 50 / 100 Marks | 50% | Minimum 50% required in practical & viva examinations. |
Grace Marks Policy
AKTU awards up to 7 to 10 grace marks per academic session for borderline failed subjects to help students reach the 40% aggregate threshold (awards Grade E). Grace marks block Honours degree eligibility.
ATKT & Carry-Over Progression Guidelines
- Students can carry forward failed subjects (Carry Over Papers) to subsequent semesters.
- Clearance of carry-over subjects replaces zero grade points with earned points.
- Honours division requires clearing all subjects in the first attempt without carry-over or grace marks.

AKTU SGPA Formula
SGPA = Sum(Credit x Grade Point) / Sum(Credit)- Grade points follow the ten point absolute scale notified by the university.
- Backlog subjects are counted with the grade point awarded after clearing the carry over exam.
- Audit and non-credit subjects do not enter the SGPA calculation.
Frequently asked questions
Does a backlog subject affect SGPA permanently?
The grade point for that subject is updated once cleared, which improves the semester SGPA.
Are non credit subjects included in SGPA?
No. Only credit-bearing subjects contribute to SGPA calculations.
Do backlog subjects count in SGPA?
A failed subject carries a zero grade point but its credits sit in the denominator until cleared.
