About this tool
VTU publishes a percentage equivalence on the back of every consolidated marks card. For the 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes the equivalence deducts 0.75 grade points before scaling, giving Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) x 10, which is the same as CGPA x 10 - 7.5. Later schemes moved to a direct CGPA x 10 conversion. This converter lets you pick the scheme printed on your card and returns the percentage along with the class awarded.
How it works
Using the VTU CGPA to Percentage Converter in three steps
Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.
- 1
Select the scheme printed on your VTU marks card, since the 2015 to 2018 schemes deduct 0.75 grade points and later schemes do not.
- 2
Enter the CGPA exactly as it appears, to two decimals.
- 3
The tool applies the scheme equation and returns the percentage with the class band it falls into.

VTU percentage equivalence
Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) x 10 for the 2015 to 2018 schemes, or CGPA x 10 later- (CGPA - 0.75) x 10 and CGPA x 10 - 7.5 are the same equation written two ways.
- First Class with Distinction begins at seventy percent and First Class at sixty percent.
- Always use the equivalence printed on your own marks card, because the scheme depends on your year of admission.
Frequently asked questions
Which scheme applies to me?
Your scheme is the year printed against your subject codes, such as 18CS or 21CS. The 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes use the 0.75 deduction, while the 2021 scheme onwards uses the direct multiplier.
Is the deduction rule official?
Yes. VTU prints the equivalence formula on the consolidated marks card, and employers and universities accept the value derived from it.
What CGPA equals sixty percent?
Under the deduction rule a CGPA of 6.75 converts to exactly sixty percent, which is the First Class boundary. Under the direct rule you would need 6.00.
Can I convert an SGPA with this tool?
You can, and it gives the percentage equivalent of that single semester, but degree eligibility and class are always decided on the final CGPA.
Why do two students with the same CGPA get different percentages?
Because the equivalence follows the scheme year of admission. A 2018 scheme student loses 7.5 percentage points that a later scheme student does not.
Does the percentage round up?
No. The value is shown to two decimals without rounding to the next whole number, matching how VTU prints the equivalence.
