About this tool
SPPU publishes two conversions, a standard 0.75 deduction and the grade banded equations of Circular 332 of 2020. This converter reverses both so you can see the SGPA under each, since the same percentage produces different grade points depending on which rule the certificate used.
How it works
Using the Percentage to SGPA Converter in three steps
Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.
- 1
Enter the SPPU percentage from your marksheet or equivalence certificate.
- 2
The tool applies the standard reverse rule, adding back the 0.75 grade points.
- 3
It also identifies which Circular 332 grade band the percentage falls in and solves that band equation, so you can compare both values.

SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University) Passing Criteria & Marks Rules
SPPU engineering uses a 70-mark end-semester and 30-mark in-semester assessment pattern. Combined 40% aggregate is required for theory heads.
| Assessment Component | Max Marks | Pass Marks | Official Guidelines |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-Semester Exam | 30 Marks | No separate minimum | Marks combine with end-semester exam score. |
| End-Semester Exam | 70 Marks | 28 Marks (40%) | Separate end-sem paper minimum required by pattern guidelines. |
| Combined Theory Head | 100 Marks | 40 Marks (40%) | Total score (In-sem + End-sem) must be >= 40. |
Grace Marks Policy
SPPU Ordinance 1 & 2 allow grace marks up to 1% of total maximum marks for passing borderline subjects or securing higher class distinction.
ATKT & Carry-Over Progression Guidelines
- ATKT rules permit progression to 2nd year if student clears at least 60% of 1st year credits.
- Progression to 3rd year requires clearing ALL 1st year subjects + passing minimum 2nd year credits.
- Maximum 6 years duration permitted to complete 4-year B.E. degree.

Reverse SPPU conversions
Standard: SGPA = (Percentage / 10) + 0.75 | Circular 332: inverse of the band equation- The Circular 332 table applies a different equation to each grade band from O down to C.
- The tool finds which band the percentage lands in, then solves that band equation numerically.
- Where the university issued a certified percentage, use the Circular 332 value.
Frequently asked questions
Which of the two values should I quote?
Use the Circular 332 value when the percentage came from a university issued equivalence certificate, and the standard value for quick estimates.
Why do the two answers differ?
Circular 332 fits a separate straight line to each grade band rather than one rule for the whole scale, so the two methods diverge away from the middle of the range.
What if my percentage falls outside the table?
Percentages below the C band are not covered by Circular 332, so only the standard reverse rule is shown for them.
Which grade bands does Circular 332 cover?
The circular publishes separate equations for the O, A plus, A, B plus, B and C bands, each fitted to its own CGPA range.
Why does the standard rule sometimes read higher?
The banded equations have steeper slopes at the top of the scale, so at high percentages the two methods pull apart by a few tenths of a grade point.
