SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University) Passing Criteria & Marks Rules
SPPU engineering uses a 70-mark end-semester and 30-mark in-semester assessment pattern. Combined 40% aggregate is required for theory heads.

Grace Marks Policy
SPPU Ordinance 1 & 2 allow grace marks up to 1% of total maximum marks for passing borderline subjects or securing higher class distinction.
ATKT & Carry-Over Progression Guidelines
- ATKT rules permit progression to 2nd year if student clears at least 60% of 1st year credits.
- Progression to 3rd year requires clearing ALL 1st year subjects + passing minimum 2nd year credits.
- Maximum 6 years duration permitted to complete 4-year B.E. degree.

ATKT progression rule
Eligible for next year = Pending heads of passing within the limit prescribed for the programme- Heads of passing are counted per subject component, not per subject.
- The permitted number of carried heads varies between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Regulations are revised periodically, so confirm against the current ordinance.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a head of passing?
It is an independently assessed component such as theory, internal assessment or practical, each of which must be cleared separately.
Does ATKT eligibility guarantee admission to the next year?
It makes you eligible for provisional progression, subject to college level confirmation and the current ordinance.
Does ATKT clear the backlog?
No. ATKT only lets you attend the next year. The backlog paper still has to be cleared in a later attempt.
Are practicals counted as separate heads?
Yes. Theory, practical and term work are separate heads of passing and each failed head counts towards the ATKT limit.
