YGPA Calculator

Combine the odd and even semester SGPA of a year into the MAKAUT YGPA that feeds the DGPA.

YGPA Calculator

Odd and even semester of the year

MAKAUT builds the yearly YGPA from the two semesters of an academic year, weighted by the credits each semester carries.

Odd semester

SGPA and credits of the odd semester.

Odd semester SGPA is required.

Odd semester credits is required.

Even semester

SGPA and credits of the even semester.

Even semester SGPA is required.

Even semester credits is required.

Result

The YGPA feeds directly into the DGPA calculation for the degree.

About this tool

MAKAUT builds the final DGPA from yearly YGPA values rather than directly from semesters. This calculator produces the YGPA for one academic year by weighting the odd and even semester SGPA with the credits each semester carried, giving you the exact figure to feed into the four year DGPA calculation.

How it works

Using the YGPA Calculator in three steps

Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.

  1. 1

Enter the SGPA and credits of the odd semester of the academic year.

  2. 2

Do the same for the even semester of that year.

  3. 3

The tool weights each SGPA by its credits and divides by the year total to give the YGPA, with the percentage equivalent alongside.

Yearly grade point average

YGPA = (SGPA odd x Credits odd + SGPA even x Credits even) / (Credits odd + Credits even)
  • Semester credits are printed on the MAKAUT grade card for each semester.
  • The four YGPA values then enter the DGPA formula (Y1 + Y2 + 1.5Y3 + 1.5Y4) / 5.
  • The percentage shown applies the MAKAUT (GPA - 0.75) x 10 rule.

Frequently asked questions

Can I average the two SGPA values directly?

Only when both semesters carry identical credits. Where the credit loads differ, the plain average overstates or understates the YGPA.

What if a semester has a backlog?

Use the SGPA currently printed on the grade card. Once the backlog clears, recalculate the YGPA with the revised SGPA.

Is YGPA printed on the marksheet?

MAKAUT reports YGPA on the yearly result and uses it for the DGPA, so it should match the value this calculator returns.

Which semesters make up one year?

Semesters one and two form the first year, three and four the second, and so on through the programme.

What do I do with the YGPA next?

Feed the four YGPA values into the DGPA calculator, where the third and fourth year each carry a weight of 1.5.
