Programme Percentage Calculator

Compute the overall IGNOU programme percentage across all courses weighted by their credits.

Programme Percentage Calculator

Completed courses

Add every completed course of the programme with its credits and the combined course total out of 100.

Course rows

Each row takes a course code, its credits and the course total out of 100.

Result

Credit weighted percentage across the whole programme, not a single course.

Add credits and marks for at least one completed course.

About this tool

IGNOU courses carry different credit values, from two credit courses up to eight credit projects, so a plain average of course marks misstates the result. This calculator weights every completed course by its credits to produce the overall programme percentage and the division band it falls into.

How it works

Using the Programme Percentage Calculator in three steps

Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.

  1. 1

Add one row per declared course with its code, credit value and the course total out of a hundred.

  2. 2

The tool multiplies each course total by its credits and sums the products.

  3. 3

Dividing by the total credits gives the programme percentage, along with the IGNOU division band.

Credit weighted programme percentage

Percentage = Sum of (Course marks x Credits) / Sum of (Credits)
  • Course marks are the combined assignment and term-end total out of one hundred.
  • First Division is sixty percent and above, Second Division is fifty to 59.99 percent.
  • Courses that are not yet declared are left out of both the numerator and the denominator.

Frequently asked questions

Why weight by credits at all?

A six credit course represents twice the study load of a three credit course, so IGNOU weights it twice as heavily in the programme result.

Do project and practical courses count?

Yes, once the result is declared. Enter the project total out of one hundred with the credits printed against it in the programme guide.

Should I include courses I have re-registered for?

Only include a course once its final result is declared. Pending re-registrations have no marks to weight.

How is this different from the grade card calculator?

The grade card tool works from assignment and term-end components of each course, while this one takes the finished course totals across the whole programme.

What credit value should I use?

Use the credits printed against the course on the grade card or in the programme guide, commonly two, four, six or eight.
