Frequently asked questions
Is the letter grade the same as the division?
No. The letter grade describes performance in a single course, while the division is derived from the overall percentage of the programme.
What is the lowest passing grade?
Grade D, awarded from forty percent, is the minimum satisfactory grade in most IGNOU programmes.
Is grade E a pass?
Grade E is the lowest band and is treated as unsatisfactory in most programmes, so the course usually has to be attempted again.
Do letter grades convert directly to marks?
No. Letter grades represent a range of marks, so the point value is indicative and the marks column remains the exact figure.
