About this tool

Indian universities including IGNOU, MAKAUT, AKTU and SPPU require a minimum attendance before a student is allowed to sit the semester examination, and seventy five percent is the usual bar. This calculator turns attended and conducted lectures into a percentage, then works out how many consecutive lectures you must attend to climb back to the requirement, or how many you can miss while staying above it.

Attendance % = (Lectures attended / Lectures conducted) x 100

The common requirement is seventy five percent, with medical relaxation decided by the institute.
Lectures needed = ceil((required % x conducted - 100 x attended) / (100 - required %)).
Practical, tutorial and theory attendance are often counted separately, so run each head on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What attendance do I need to sit the exam?

Seventy five percent of conducted lectures is the standard requirement at IGNOU study centres, MAKAUT, AKTU and SPPU affiliated colleges. Individual institutes can set a higher internal bar.

Does a medical leave count as attended?

Only if the institute condones it after you submit the certificate. Until it is condoned in the records, treat the lecture as missed while planning.

Should I count practicals with theory?

No. Most colleges maintain theory and practical attendance registers separately, so calculate each subject head on its own to see where you fall short.

How is the number of lectures needed calculated?

The tool solves (attended + x) / (conducted + x) for your required percentage and rounds up, which gives the smallest run of consecutive lectures that lifts you back over the bar.

Can I plan for a whole semester in advance?

Yes. Enter the total lectures the subject will run as conducted and the number you realistically expect to attend to see where the semester ends up.
