Division & Honours Evaluator

Final academic record

Honours requires a clean academic record in addition to the CGPA threshold.

Final CGPA is required.

Academic record conditions

These two conditions decide whether Honours can be awarded.

Result

Honours at 8.5 with a clean record, Distinction at 7.5, First Division at 6.5.

About this tool

Honours at AKTU needs more than a high CGPA: the record must be free of grace marks and backlogs at every stage. The evaluator combines your CGPA with those two conditions and reports the award, falling back to Distinction when the record disqualifies Honours.

How it works

Using the Division & Honours Evaluator in three steps

Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.

  1. 1

Enter your final CGPA and state whether grace marks or backlogs were involved.

  2. 2

The tool applies the AKTU classification bands to that CGPA.

  3. 3

You get Honours at 8.5 and above with a clean record, Distinction at 7.5, First Division at 6.5, and the reason if Honours is blocked.

Grace Marks Policy

AKTU awards up to 7 to 10 grace marks per academic session for borderline failed subjects to help students reach the 40% aggregate threshold (awards Grade E). Grace marks block Honours degree eligibility.

ATKT & Carry-Over Progression Guidelines

  • Students can carry forward failed subjects (Carry Over Papers) to subsequent semesters.
  • Clearance of carry-over subjects replaces zero grade points with earned points.
  • Honours division requires clearing all subjects in the first attempt without carry-over or grace marks.

Division and Honours bands

Frequently asked questions

Does a cleared backlog still block Honours?

Yes. Honours requires a clean record, so a backlog counts even after it has been cleared in a later attempt.

What happens if I miss Honours on the record condition?

The award falls back to First Division with Distinction, which your CGPA still satisfies.

Why does a cleared backlog block Honours?

Honours requires passing every paper in the first attempt without grace, so a cleared backlog still removes eligibility even though the degree is awarded.

Does Distinction have the same clean record condition?

Distinction is based on the CGPA band, so it remains available even where Honours is ruled out by a backlog or grace marks.
