About this tool
An AKTU carry over paper sits in the CGPA at zero grade points until it is cleared. This recalculator takes the CGPA declared with the backlog, the total credits and the credits of the carry over papers, then shows the CGPA and percentage after those papers are cleared at the grade point you expect.
How it works
Using the Carry Over CGPA Recalculator in three steps
Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.
- 1
Enter the CGPA currently declared with the carry over papers pending, plus the total credits it covers.
- 2
Add the credits of the carry over papers and the grade point you expect once they are cleared.
- 3
The tool moves those credits off a zero grade point and reports the recovered CGPA, the points gained and the new percentage.
CGPA after clearing carry over papers
New CGPA = (Current CGPA x Total credits + Expected grade point x Carry over credits) / Total credits- Carry over credits already sit in the total, earning zero grade points until the paper clears.
- The percentage shown applies the AKTU (CGPA x 10) - 7.5 rule.
- Honours requires a CGPA of 7.5 with no carry over history, so a cleared back paper normally rules it out.
Frequently asked questions
What grade point should I expect after a carry over exam?
Plan conservatively around the pass grade, since re-examination results commonly cluster near the minimum passing grade point.
Does the carry over stay on the marksheet?
The result history records the attempt, which is why honours and distinction eligibility is normally lost even after the paper is cleared.
Do carry over credits count twice?
No. The credits are counted once in the total. Clearing the paper only replaces its zero grade points with the grade earned.
How do I find the credits of a carry over paper?
They are printed against the subject on the semester marksheet and in the AKTU evaluation scheme for your branch.
Can the recalculated CGPA exceed ten?
No. The result is capped at ten, and a value pressing against the cap usually means the expected grade point entered is too optimistic.
